Welcome to Steps 4 Change.

As you all know with all the foreclosures and job losses the face of homelessness in our country has changed. Todays homeless are families and individuals who just a few months ago were living productive lives in beautiful homes with their families and now find themsselves homeless and now living with other family members who are barely making it themselves. On top of all that the budget cuts in government agency's in most cases there is NO help for these families and individuals. Another problem is making bad choices, living above our means, and not preparing for bad times. We all have made bad choices and luckily most have not caused life changes, but some do. And we don't always know what to do or who to go to for help when that happens.

Steps 4 Change was started because I realized that just giving a person a place to live is not enough. Most homeless that are given housing lose it in a few months. Before they get into a new home they must learn how to deal with Post Traumatic Stress (PTS) of homelessness along with responsibility, self-esteem, assertiveness, respect, and how to work through lifes struggles so they get a better outcome and want to live happier, healthier lives. We give them the tools and support to handle family, drug/alcohol, financial, emotional, and mental issues that sometimes cause them to make decisions that hurt them. We show them how to make more informed decisions, how to and want to take care of their responsibilities and necessities in life before the wants and luxuries, how to handle stress, low cost healthy eating, better communication skills, money management, learning better judgement skills, and more. This we think will keep them in housing for the long term and improve their lives. We support them all along the way with case management for as long as needed we are here whenever they need positive reinforcement.

We also provide them with a homeless peer group so they can discuss problems they are having and solutions with others who are or have been where they are. This also helps us to learn what hurdles are still out there that need to be worked on to help end homelessness.

We are out in the street on a daily basis to connect with the homeless where they are and build trust so we can help them through the process of getting them off the street and into permanent housing.

We are a non-profit organization to help the homeless and end homelessness. We are a new program in San Bernardino County and our 501c3 is pending. We provide Street Outreach and offer services, referrals and resources to the homeless on the street or in risk of being out in the street.
